Bible Study Question #5

Your Spiritual Survival Kit: Daily Questions
These online questions are posted as an additional resource for the Bible study series Your Spiritual Survival Kit.  They are not required to go through the group study.  Rather, they are here to provide you with food for thought and spiritual reflection.  You are also welcome to post your own answer or reaction to each question as a comment here on this blog.  Just remember to respect the opinions and responses of others.  Blessings!

5. What is most important to you in a Bible version (translation)?

  1. When it comes to Bible study, I look for a translation that accurately reflects the original language. When it comes to devotional reading, I appreciate freer translations such as the Message or the New Living translation.

  3. Being accurate to the original language is most important to me as well. Especially if you think of how much one wrong word could change the meaning of a sentence or much more.

I don't like the gender neutral Bibles for this reason. But, at the same time, for daily reading (or listening in my case), I do like the NRSV. It is gender neutral, but not so much that it is over done to wipe out any hint of the original word being masculine.
